The Focus Paralane is an all-weather endurance road bike

In the Paralane are more than 6 years of value work with constant improvements:

The first model of the Paralane was released in 2017. In the beginning, the variants were named after the shift groups, such as Paralane Shimano 105 and Paralane Shimano Ultegra. Only in the later course, the Paralane bikes got a numbering. The last Paralane Bikes 2022 for now were the Focus Paralane 8.9 and 8.8, which are available for purchase as new bikes.

The Focus Paralane Carbon comes in a variety of configurations

The Paralane was in Focus' lineup for 6 years straight from 2017 to 2022. The majority of the bikes are available in frame sizes XS to XXL and the color varies depending on the version and model year. You can choose between carbon and aluminum for the frame material and you can also purchase it as an e-bike. The upright riding position gives you comfort for long tours and you can use the Paralane versatile. It is an endurance road bike that takes the gravel roads and dirt roads with joy when needed.

  • Paralane Carbon

As the name suggests, you get a carbon frame here. It features R.A.T. Evo technology and is equipped with a 142x12mm R.A.T. thru axle. The frameset is a C.I.A (Comfort Improving Areas) design that promises high comfort and good lateral stiffness. With ample tire clearance, you may even feel the urge to use the bike as a cyclocrosser.

The cable pulls are routed inside the frame. This provides more protection and makes more on the road than if the cables hang loose. The fork is perfectly made for flat mount brakes, so you come to a stop with pinpoint accuracy. To not lose the fun in the rain, you can attach mudguards.

  • Paralane AL

Here you get an endurance road bike with a lightweight aluminum frame. You can choose between the Paralane AL Shimano 105 or the Paralane AL Donna Shimano Ultegra. On most models you have the option of attaching mudguards. The aluminum models are mainly cheaper to have, but this depends on the equipment. Another advantage of an aluminum frame is that it is more durable. You can continue to ride it without problems in case of minor damage, and besides, it can be recycled in an environmentally friendly way. Especially in this day and age, a careful use of resources is in demand.

  • Parlane²

The Parlane² is an e-bike that comes with slightly less tire clearance than the carbon version. Here, too, there is the option of fitting the bike with mudguards so that it is suitable for use in the rain. The motor is a Fazua product, as Focus has many years of experience in this field. Even when the battery is empty, the bike can simply be driven on.

Over the years the Focus Paralane has been available in several variants with different features

n essence, Focus relied on a narrow selection of manufacturers for the components for the Paralane. Where possible, the products of its own development forge was relied on. The components can be better adapted to the own frame design and shipping costs are also saved. For the remaining components is set on known suppliers such as Shimano, SRAM, BBB, Vittoria or Continental.

Derailleur groups & brakes

Switching groups: The Shimano 105 and Shimano Ultegra are used over the years mostly in the rear derailleur, front derailleur, crank, etc.. The Shimano Ultegra is superior to the Shimano 105 technically and in weight. In some models you will also find the products of SRAM, such as the SRAM Red eTap AXS.

Brakes: The flat mount disc brakes give you a sense of security during your tours. They grip precisely and do not let you down in wet and muddy conditions. This is one reason why Focus has long opted for disc brakes on road bikes. The effort to operate the brake lever is almost 20 percent less than when braking over the rim.

Drive systems: Due to years of experience with Fazua, the motor from Germany was also chosen for the Paralane². The Fazua Evation shows its strengths when it goes over the 25 km/h limit. The slim battery is housed in the down tube. You can easily remove the motor and battery and ride with just a cover.

Cockpit

Saddle: You get, for example, a proprietary development, such as the Focus Race SL, or saddle from suppliers. The Prologo K3 and the Prologo Scratch STN Rail are best made for longer rides. Furthermore, the Fizik Aliante R5 is used, which is equally popular with professionals and hobbyfahrer:innen. The Focus Bartape SL is a very common choice for handlebar tape.

Seatpost: In the seatpost you will find, among other things, the BBB Basic made of aluminum or the BBB FlyPost made of carbon. The Dutch have been in business for 25 years and the company is based in the south of the country. The company was founded by Chris Koppert and Frank Moons. Their products are available in more than 40 countries, with a rising trend.

Handlebar & Stem: The Basic aluminum handlebar from BBB is also used. The stem is also made of aluminum. Another combination is the Easton EC90 Aero handlebar and the Easton EA90 Stem.

Wheels & Tires

Wheels: A wheelset consists of rims, spokes and hub. For this, the Alex Rims CXD wheelset is available, among others. The Alex Rims CXD is reliable and compatible with most of the market leaders' groupsets.

Tires: Depending on the model year, you'll find the Vittoria Zaffiro Pro or Rubino TLR, among others. Another tire is the Continental GP 4 Season, which can be used all year round for long tours.

Additional equipment

If you are planning longer rides, then a bottle cage incl. water bottle always makes a good addition to your shopping cart. Even with used bikes you have to pay attention to whether the pedals are included. See to it that you have or buy the right shoes with the choice of pedals.

Am I in good hands with the Focus Paralane or do I choose a newer endurance bike

Another road bike from Focus is the Izalco Max, which impresses with good aerodynamics. As a gravel bike we can recommend the Focus Atlas, which is best suited for remote routes. For trekking excursions you get the Aventura² and for the city you are well provided for with the Planet². Both are excellent all-round e-Bikes for everyday life.

If you have decided against a bike for the road, Focus offers several mountain bikes. These are available as fully or hardtail bikes as well as e-bikes with different suspension. You can choose from 4 models as an E-MTB Fully. The Thron² is well suited if you like trails and tours. The Jam² and Jam² SL are versatile all-mountain bikes. The Focus Sam², let's you go on enduro adventures and tear up the trails.

As Fully MTB without motor the Thron and the Jam are available. For a hardtail without electric support you can choose between the Whistler and the Raven. You can use the Whistler for your way to work as well as on the trails in the surrounding area. With the Raven you'll be at your best when racing.

To this day the bikes are designed in Stuttgart

Focus's beginnings date back to 1993. From the beginning, the company has specialized in mountain bikes. These came about through collaboration with cyclocross world champion Mike Kluge. Since 1999, the company has been part of Derby Cycle Holding GmbH, which also owns other brands. The majority of the bikes in the range are still MTBs, but you can now also get bikes for the road as well as gravel bikes.

Despite the takeover the bikes are still designed in Stuttgart and produced in Cloppenburg. This creates synergies and saves costs in production, since a better utilization is achieved. Derby Cycle Holding GmbH in turn, is now owned by Pon Holdings from the Netherlands. However, the new owner has changed virtually nothing about the functioning concept.

You have several possibilities to test the Focus bikes. For once there are the Focus Trucks and Bike Festivals, you just have to check for dates in your area. Another possibility are the Focus test centers where you'll also get an ample consultation.

If you still have questions at the end of the day, we at buycycle are happy to help.
