BMC Timemachine - The Aero Wheel for Optimal Speed
BMC Switzerland, as the name suggests, has its origins in Switzerland, Grenchen to be precise. Although Grenchen is quite provincial, it has its own airport for business flights and is also located only about 25 kilometers north of Bern in the canton of Solothurn. The first beginnings were in 1986 with the distribution of RALEIGH bicycles and in 1994 the Bicycle Manufacturing Company was founded. The number of employees has grown to over 150 and over the years the Impec Lab has been added. The Impec Lab is a playground for engineers, where they use powerful supercomputers, CNC machines and state-of-the-art carbon fiber to bring innovative bicycle concepts to life. The brand's overarching goal has always been to generate speed, which has been made possible by aero modules such as the BMC ICS Aero Cockpit and other aero components, which are also used on the BMC Timemachine. These provide optimal aerodynamics to get every little advantage on the track out. That the focus on speed has paid off can be seen in victories at the Tour de France or even the Olympic Games, to name just a few of the prestigious races. In addition to road bikes, BMC also has gravel bikes, MTBs and also still some e-bikes in the range. In the aero/triathlon division, there is the BMC Timemachine Road, with 3 different subcategories, such as the Timemachine Road 01 Two, Timemachine Road 01 Three and the Timemachine Road 01 One. Furthermore, there is then the BMC Timemachine, with the Timemachine One, the Timemachine 01 Disc Two and the Timemachine 01 Disc One. Due to its special field of application, the triathlon bike is normally already delivered with a partly integrated bottle cage and comes in the streamlined aero design. Also the further developed tube shapes, which are available for the different frame sets, provide better aerodynamics . The well known BMC Timemachine TM02 is a predecessor model of the current Timemachine generation, but has lost virtually nothing of its charm and performance and can still easily keep up with the newer models, as is still confirmed by many triathletes. This shows but again also how ambitious the team around BMC is constantly working on better solutions for their bike models to optimize them further.
With the components only the best
In the components such as brakes, shifting group, wheels, bottom bracket, wheelset, etc. BMC relies on well-known manufacturers such as SRAM, Shimano, Vittoria, Fizik and Pirelli, or even from the Swiss of DT Swiss. Many of the aforementioned manufacturers have either been around for a long time, such as Fizik, Shimano and Pirelli, or have earned a very good reputation in a short time, such as SRAM. Fizik, to name one, was founded back in 1966 in Italy and has always impressed with excellent saddles, as well as many other excellent components, for the avid cyclist.
Groupsets & brakes
A groupset includes, among other things, a shift lever, a front derailleur, the rear derailleur and the crank along with other components. Older models and also entry-level models, such as the Timemachine One, usually still use mechanical gears such as the Shimano Ultegra. In the Timemachine Road 01 TWO, for example, the Shimano Ultegra Di2 is attached. In the latter, the latest technology is already used, but the former also does not need to hide through its durability. The third of the Shimano groupset that is installed on the Timemachine bikes is the Shimano Dura Ace. The Shimano Dura Ace is intended for the highest performance, where the Shimano Ultegra can be used again more versatile. The SRAM RIVAL eTap AXS offers an integrated power meter as an option, with which one can also personalize his switching preferences. Further, the SRAM FORCE AXS and SRAM RIVAL AXS is also installed in the triathlon series.
There are 2 basic brake types, once the rim brake which works via brake pads on the rims and then still the disc brake. The rim brake is available in different designs such as V-brakes, cantilever brakes, U-brakes and side-pull brakes and they usually work mechanically, although hydraulic brakes are also used occasionally. Disc brakes have only been around for a few years, but are slowly but surely replacing rim brakes. As with the shifting groups, most components of Shimano or SRAM are used in the brakes, matching the shifting group.
Saddle / seatpost & handlebars
The seatpost is also equipped with aero features for best possible aerodynamics, such as the Premium Carbon Aero Post on the BMC Timemachine Road and the Premium Carbon V-Max Aero Post on the Timemachine Road 01. For the saddle, the products of Fizik are often used, such as the Fizik Mistica Mg or the Fizik Argo Vento. The saddle plus seatpost in conjunction with the handlebar and stem should bring an optimal seating position for the athlete. The stem at the BMC Timemachine Road is a BMC ICS Aero Cockpit from the own house, which is to provide like all aero components for maximum aerodynamics. The Timemachine Road 01 uses either the BMC RSM01 or the BMC Flat Cockpit.
Wheels / rims / hubs & additional equipment
Tires used include Vittoria's Vittoria Corsa, as well as tires from Pirelli, such as the Pirelli P ZERO RACE. Rims and hubs are installed by DT Swiss, such as the DT Swiss Arc, or also by Shimano. Furthermore, BMC also uses products from its own innovation workshop, namely the CRD-501 Carbon, Tubeless Ready rim. For most triathlon bikes, bottle cages are already included in the bike, but there is also a nice clothing section on the homepage of BMC, so that you can dress stylishly to match the chic bikes of the Swiss.
Do I need a triathlon bike or am I looking for something else?
If you are not quite sure which bike is the right one, here is an overview of other models with different applications of BMC. In addition to the right choice of bike, you should also pay attention to the right frame size. The Altitude models are the ideal bike for the "climbers" among you, with the Teammachine ALR and the Teammachine SLR. They impress with agility on the steepest trails and also convince on challenging descents. For the endurance riders there is the Roadmachine and the Roadmachine X. Both road bike series convince with an excellent mix of comfort and speed, so that you arrive as quickly as possible but still safe and sound at the end of the day at his destination. The URS and the URS LT are the Gravel Bikes of the Confederates which are not fixed on any surface and thus you determine where the journey will lead you, whether on gravel roads, cobblestones or even times smaller forest trails a little off the regular routes. For the time trial BMC has the Trackmachine series in the offer, which shines through superior handling with optimized aerodynamics and best efficiency. For e-bikes, there is the Roadmachine AMP to choose from, a road bike for endurance rides or the Alpenchallenge AMP for active riding in any season, whether over country roads or in the urban jungle. In the direct neighborhood of BMC, the Velodrom Swiss is a unique project for Switzerland. In the middle of Grenchen's sports facility zone, an 8000 square meter multifunctional hall was built, with a 250m long cycling track as its centerpiece. The Velodrome is not only an important component for the region, but also for Swiss cycling in general. Hardly any cycling federation provides so many winners at world championships or the Olympic Games, as Switzerland and the Velodrome Swiss should guarantee that this will continue.
